Dvc and travel insurance
If you book and pay to rent dvc accomodation and you can't go on holiday for covid or other reasons would you be able to claim this expense back like a hotel booking

I recently claimed on my insurance for DVC points I'd rented and had no issues. I just needed to show them proof that our flights had been cancelled.

Make sure you have an agreement, and evidence of amount paid. So long it's it's officially done you'd have a better chance of a claim.

So long as there is a paper trail and proof of payment/transaction that's what makes it official - so you could rent on here or from an individual to the same effect to be clear. Also i'd check with insurance and/or renter beforehand if you have any concerns.
I've rented my points previously and would want peace of mind for the renter as well as myself. |

Some people have reported their travel insurance did not cover them when they rented points, but I don’t recall which insurer it was.

Many thanks for that very kind of you.
Seems more than ever now you need to make sure that any outlay can either be refunded or booked with minimum outlay. I have taken a new comprehensive holiday insurance out with staysure I will email them to ask about dvc timeshare rental to see if i am covered prior to outlaying anything. Can keep the email as proof in case I need to claim |

Also as a minimum you could ask the owner for a refund clause where if the booking is cancelled, points are readvertised where possible and rented again, you can get your money back. Or perhaps agree a % to be held by either party. So long as you are flexible most owners will be 🙂
Companies like David's will have their own, likely stricter rules. |

I would doubly check with your insurer as mine has a clause that monies have to be claimed back before any claim is even considered- so you would have to claim from Davids (or others) before they would even consider it.
