Has everybody got insurance in place ?

Just wondering with the ripples of excitement and planning , how people are going with insurance.

We’ve had an annual insurance but obviously let it lapse , because everything we had was on a refund basis , and basically we paid out for something we never used .

Obviously hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Now looking into insurance again, previously staysure ( I have Pemc), do they offer everything that’s needed ? , is it better to wait it out ( we don’t go till September) , an annual definatetly looks a cheaper way than a single trip.

Wanting to make sure that we have everything in terms of cover / testing/ etc etc

Not a guru on insurances , so if anybody can offer guidance on who is currently offering a good covid policy with everything else ( must be somebody who covers pemc )

I did a quick recheck at staysure today , but couldn’t work out if it had everything needed I’m easily confused

Cheers

Jules

We don't at the moment, we had paid over £800 for an annual last year, they refunded us half of that a couple of months ago as we'd had no trips at all.

We were with staysure but didn’t renew , because we had a policy that we paid out for , for a year that we didn’t use, and obviously nobody knew going forward what would happen. Didn’t know if the new policies had the same cover ?

Which I think they maybe don’t

That's interesting Linda.

As you may recall we also pay around £850 for our annual policy with Staysure and obviously haven't needed it since we renewed last June. At the time of renewing though we got 15 months for the price of 12 so I wouldn't really be looking to renew until August. I'm certainly going to ask about a "no claims discount" before I renew though.

Our Staysure (as at the June renewal) included cancellation costs if we caught Covid within 14 days of travel and unlimited medical cover if we get ill with Covid over there UNLESS we travel against FCO advice.

OP The only general insurance advice I give is never pay a premium too far ahead if your loss is likely to be less than the premium. We've been reasonably lucky as we've really lost nothing in three cancellations. Refunds mainly from flights, car park and airport hotel and moved the bookings over for car hire and the villa.

I'll test the market as usual when we need to cover our November trip.

Mick

PS I'm 75 and Joan is my 74 year old child bride and we're both post-cancer

We were with Insure and Go Mick, once we lost our first 2 this year, we knew it was going to be another policy not used, I called them really wanting them to maybe extend it to cover this year, they said they don't do extensions but offered us £437 back, better than nothing 😳

Good result Linda.

I don't have the same crystal ball that some Dibbers seem to have but I'm genuinely hoping that the insurance underwriters start taking a little more of a pragmatic view on Covid risks soon. Trouble is we're not going to get younger nor ever able to say no to "have you ever had cancer?"

I need to look into ours.

We have Axa annual policy through Halifax, not sure if their policy has changed since I last checked when we weren’t covered for covid.

When all this Corona virus started we still had a couple of trips booked and never thought the wouldn’t happen so when I got an email from M&S travel insurance informing me that if I continued my insurance then we would keep our current T&C’s however if we cancelled due to pandemic then when we wished to renew it would be new T&C’s so we just left it running and hoped we might be able to travel.

We haven’t got our insurance in place because I’m really struggling to find one that allows you to go for 60 days per trip if someone in your family is over 70.
