I thought I had always been so careful with ppi, but have always kept paper copies of important documents. When a colleague had ppi claim upheld, I filled the forms in online for my first credit card and mortgages. I was successful in two, but the worrying thing was that ppi has been added to my mortgage without my consent and knowledge. The company phoned me on three occasion and it felt that they were trying to draw out inconsistencies in my statement e.g was a male or female advisor. Their problem was that living in a small town, I knew the advisor by name. Result, £2800 pay out for a mortgage I held for only 5 years. My advice, if in doubt, fill in the necessary forms and let the process take its course.

Good for you - I didn’t pay fees because I went direct with lender

I keep telling my oh to try his first mortgage but it was more than 6 years and we have no documents so I think we've given up on it!

Who did you go through? We had ppi back from Lloyds for a loan dh had but other than that we're not sure what we've had and don't have much paperwork. We've just filled out paperwork with the claims guys for ppi and packaged bank accounts.

Martin Lewis said if it's more than 6 years it's hard to do. Which company would you recommend for no documents. Talking 19 years ago here!
