Upgrading seats

Hi

Im hoping to get business class seats to fly to Australia, but im going to wait until the Christmas sales to book the flights. Is it any cheaper to book the class at time of booking, or to book premium and see if there is an upgrade option later on? Obviously im running a risk of there not being any available

Not too sure, but two years ago I booked BA PE and then in the Xmas sale noticed the price was a lot cheaper, I phoned to ask if I could cancel and re-book and they said for an extra £5 each they would upgrade us all to CW, so I changed. It's actually worked out cheaper because I cancelled the seat reservations and thought we'd take a chance because DD was 10 and we were seated together both ways.

When we looked on the website I don't think there was too much difference between the upgrade we got and if we booked CW in the sale
