External Paint Question
I need to paint the external facia boards and I'm looking for a black paint / stain. Every manufacturer seems to use different terminology and I'm getting confused.
I had found Culprinol Ducksback 5yr for sheds and fences but there seems to be a national shortage of that. I'm struggling to find an equivalent. Johnsons Woodworks Shed and Fence treatment says it's to be used on rough sawn timber, and my boards are pretty smooth. If anyone has used a product that worked well please can you let me know, many thanks. |

Most people nowadays are getting rid of wooden fascias and replacing with uPVC. Maintenance free apart from a couple of wipe downs a year and looks nice.
However if you are keeping wood you need to use a good quality paint in the colour you want. Dulux Weathershield gloss is good gear. I would be scraping the loose paint off, sandpapering it well. Wash clean and let dry. Then at least 1 maybe 2 grey undercoats and 1 or 2 gloss coats in black.

I've used Beckers paint in the past, but it now seems to be unavailable. My normal supplier has recommended Teknos as a substitute brand. Its not cheap but its roughly the same price a Beckers was, around £60 for a 3 litre tub.

My husband is a decorator and says he would use Rustins Matt black for wood and metal. He tells me if the wood is in good condition and the surface is prepared well it should last 7 years. He uses this on ours.
