Restaurant recommendations for Plymouth
We're heading down to Plymouth at the weekend for a university open day so will need to find somewhere for dinner for 2 adults and 2 teens. I'm sure there are the usual chains there but can anyone recommend a good independent place or area we should head for?
Thanks |

There’s not a lot in Plymouth, usual chains- frankie and bennys, Nandos etc, best place would be Barbican leisure park. For a nice meal I would try Pasta and pizza bar on Barbican.
For a great breakfast, park at bottom of town, by the old Toys R us and cross over to Frankfurt gate and go to Lisbon cafe, absolutely fab breakfast/lunch with a great cake/patisserie counter.

Steak and Omlette bar in town centre also OK.
If you looking for something on way home, I would say Hunting Lodge at Ivybridge on A38.

I’d have to disagree I think Plymouth has some good independent restaurants which our relatives who live there have always taken us to.

We stayed in Plymouth in June last year and had a lovely meal at the Spanish tapas bar Maritimo with a lovely view out to sea.
Also enjoyed some delicious Vietnamese street food in the harbour in a restaurant called Suphas. |

Disagree! i live near Plymouth and there are some lovely independent places. Agree with previous posters, Suphas (asian street food, right on waterfront), quay 33 (pretty place on historic barbican. lovely standard of food), Pier one or pier masters (barbican and hoe area, lovely sea views, nice seafood), salumi (not such a pretty area but by the ferry port and fantastic food), the dock (overlooking ferry port, nice and modern, Rocksalt (not such a great are but amazing food), The fishermans Arms on the barbican (really cute and good food) and loads outside of the city centre/barbican area. Springing to mind, get the little foot ferry over to Mountbatten and go the Bridge, really fancy restaurant at the Boringdon Hall, bit further up the A38, Turtley Corn Mill. Absolutely no need to be sticking with the bland chains.
I know this is probably a bit late for the OP but in case in helps anyone in the future... |
