Does anyone have any experience of the use of this medication in teenagers with autism.
DS is likely to be prescribed this at our next Camhs appointment.
He has quite extreme meltdowns which can be aggressive so that’s what’s been suggested.

Do you mean rispiridone? I’ve never used it for teenagers or autism but it tends to work amazingly well for aggressive dementia patients so I could imagine it working well. You usually start on quite a low dose.

Eldest DS has Risperidone and has been on it for years. It can take a while to get used to it and he quite often had spells where he would refuse to take it. It took a while to get dose right and for him to acknowledge he should take it.

Yes probably - it was a telephone consultation .
He has to be seen in person but good to know if might be useful.

DS25 has Aspergers and has been taking risperidone for a couple of months now. He was having meltdowns and bad anxiety due to obsessing over certain thoughts that would get stuck in his head. He's on a small dose but it has made a big difference.
