Best rollers/brushes for painting?

I'm going to be decorating the lounge very soon and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of decent makes of rollers and brushes please.

The ones I've used previously seem to be ok for the first coat but rubbish after that. I'm probably looking at several coats as it's currently a dark colour (not our choice) and we're going much lighter.

Thanks in advance.

I will only use 2 brands. Hamilton and Harris. The better the quality and thus the price the better the finish.

Mind you I am still using sheepskin roller sleeves from the early 1980's and they are still good.

is it a smooth surface? (ie already painted backing paper) - if so, i'd suggest the foam rollers, i find they give a more even coat than the rollers with material

saying that, i just bought these (and a couple of the same, but big ones) for the breezeblock wall outside that i'll be painting in a week or so...

I don't use synthetic but my Son says he used these and did a few rooms in his house recently and is well pleased with the result.
Cheap and cheerful

screwfix/p/harris-tr...2-x-1-75/2870x

Make sure the sleeve and roller frame are the same size. Some are 1.5" and some are 1.75"

Purdy are excellent brushes and rollers and you can't go wrong with them. They're expensive but are very good.

Normally only trade stock them but you can pick them up in B&Q nowadays too.

Hamilton, Wooster, Fossa and Staalemeester are all good brands.

I'm not a fan of Harris myself.

Most brushes nowadays are synthetic and they're the best for water based paints. Natural is good for oil based, though most off the shelf paints these days are water based (since 2010 regs changed) and water based has come on leaps and bounds.

You can get most of the above from mypaintbrush/buy-p...int-brush-sets and if you use code DF8 you'll save a few quid.

If you're going to need lots of coats consider priming first with an acrylic primer (after any filling, sanding etc) and thin the 1st coat of the finish colour a little too (only by about 5% or so). It'll make for a more even finish.

Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it

When I read your follow-up about them 1.5" or 1.75" I decided not to bother

Thanks for the recommendations and other useful information, all very much appreciated.
Yes, it's a smooth surface so thankfully not too much prep work required.
