We've done the same for our youngest for her birthday (I had one a few years back and it was "as new" and you get the same warranty). We did consider getting one in the US as it is the same in $ as it is in £s but we're leaving after her birthday so bought one here so she could have it on the day rather than wait.

Shame they don't do the refurbished phones in the UK.

Honestly, I would purchase a refurbished phone here in the uk, lots of deals from honest shops. I just brought both my son's iPhone 6s both for under 190 each, both are in as new condition plus 3 months warranty I think. Plus no chance I would buy new when there is so many refurbished with nothing wrong with them. Check out "game" lots on there and in store. No I don't work for them either
