Painting a room without testing the paint

Hi, hope everyone is as well as they can be.
I now have some time on my hands and thinking of doing some decorating. We have spoken for a while about painting the lounge and I already had an idea of what colour, but hadn't chosen the paint. I have been on the Dulux website and tried their visualisation app, where you can take a picture of the room and then colour it using the paint you wish. I've also typed the colour into Instagram and seen a few rooms painted the colour I like. Ideally I would paint a small section of the room to make sure I like it before I buy the paint, but everywhere I look, there is an £8/delivery charge for a £2 tester. I would then pay the delivery again if I order the paint.
So has anyone decorated their room without testing before?

Usually get the tester but yes we have in the past.
Maybe a dibber will have the colour or know if it’s a likeness to the pot of you say which colour/brand it is?

OP. Try Wilko if there is one near you.

They are still trading and certainly the 2 where I live have a big range of testers. Worth a try.

Which colour is it and which way does your room face?
It’s the first question I always ask as the direction the light comes into a room can make the tone of the colour vary hugely. Let me know and I will help if I can.

Try Decorating Centre Online, they are excellent with matching colours and their P&P cost isn’t much plus their testers are huge. If you have Instagram then add them on there as Helen is really helpful.

If it’s not a mad colour that had to be matched up to anything then yes I would order

I hardly ever buy tester pots, just pick a colour I like and paint it. Thankfully I’ve never picked a colour I didn’t like.
As above try wilko, their own brand paint is good.
B&M are open and usually have a very good paint selection in the larger stores.

Wickes are doing click and collect still if you have one localish, we have done it a few times but we’ve always seen the colour in person before we’ve bought it. (With the exception of my mum click and collecting a large vat of magnolia on occasion)

This is the colour that I’m thinking and used the visualisation in the second picture. At the moment our walls are white as it’s a new build but been here 9 months and no cracks so thinking it’s ok to paint. It’s Dulux Tranquil Dawn if anyone has it. Our lounge faces North West
I’ll take a look at the Instagram page suggested
Unfortunately Wickes is out of stock for collection in our local stores but might take a wander to Wilko when I next need a shop. Thank you for all your replies so far

I have that colour in my bathroom and it is gorgeous. I dont think you'll be disappointed. On a morning the sun streams in and it looks one colour and then on an afternoon it looks different but both are equally lovely. I would say go for it. It is quite a neutral colour without being a boring grey or beige.
