Alamo insurance - help
Hey,
Can we use a different insurance company to get better insurance with our car hire with Alamo. Virgins prices are expensive so we have opted for 3rd party cover which comes as free. But has anyone looked for insurance elsewhere for there hire Thanks in advance |

Over my 16 years on here and reading most of the car hire posts I would guess that at least 95% of Dibbers take the insurances offered by UK brokers. However a handful of Dibbers do choose to take out independent cover.
A couple of words of warning if I may though. If you refuse the CDW cover offered by UK brokers you may have a substantial hold put on your credit card by the car hire company until responsibility between the respective insurers is resolved. Take out the included CDW, have a bump then just ring Alamo (or whoever) and they'll deliver a new car with no excess to pay. Secondly. and more important in my opinion, is not taking enough SLI (aka EP). You really need $1m which may not be included in separate policies. Mick PS welcome to the DIBB - most of us regular contributors to the car forum are a friendly bunch

PS Give Andy at Discount Florida Car Hire a try - web site link in yellow banner. Well respected on the DIBB and used by us about 5 or 6 times in recent years.

OP. I assume you have a Virgin Holiday hence the extortionate car hire insurance cost.
I can only echo what Mick has already said. Strangely it can be cheaper to get a fully insured car from Virgin than it is to pay the insurance on the one you get with the holiday package. Most weird. My recommendation is the same as Mick. Get prices form a 3rd party supplier and take it from there. I check about 12 suppliers before I opt for the one I want
