Tolls in FL
We are hiring a car next May for the first time ever. This is booked through VH so with Alamo.
For all of the car hire veterans can you please let me know best way to handle tolls and ultimately if we will go through any…. Our driving will consist of: MCO to Universal via Intl Premium Outlets and nearest Walmart Universal to WDW I drive WDW to Seaworld 192 / Celebration / Old Town WDW to MCO Think that is about it… Thanks

Best option by far is the Visitor Toll Pass which has just been reintroduced a few weeks ago. Are you bored and want an hour's reading of a thread on the VTP that I started?
If not the next cheapest is to pay cash or buy your own transponder but by the time you get to a shop that sells them you may have gone through some tolls. Next best is Alamo's Sunpass scheme. Nothing to sign up to - just drive through tolls and camera takes a pic Mick

Register with Visitor Toll Pass. It's easy and hassle free. There's a big thread on it recently.

In terms of the holiday cost these will be insignificant
From MCO on arrival day using north exit to 528 - one toll around $2.50 No tolls between Universal and WDW using I-4. No tolls on I-Drive WDW to Seaworld using I-4 no tolls No tolls on the 192 and Celebration area WDW back to MCO using 417. Three tolls totalling about $5. These are Nov 2019 prices Here's Alamo Sunpass costs sunpass/en/tolls/rentalVehicles.shtml Mick

Thank you all… I guess at some point soon I will be reading that thread on VTP.
I am sure will be answered on that thread…. But is there anything I need to do to ensure I go through tolls correctly and not bypass… ie in right lane etc Is it as straightforward as U.K. tolls?

If you want to pay cash then you generally stay in the right lane and follow the arrows to the cash booths. If you have a VTP tag, a Sunpass transponder or are using the hire cars built in toll pass then you simply drive through in any lane.
Certain exits are unmanned, these need coins or one of the drive through options above. |

My 75 year old bones were tucked up in bed when you replied but any excuse to post these pics again.
This is the first toll that you'll encounter if you leave MCO on 417 south. If you choose to pay cash keep in the two right lanes and give the attendant no bigger than a $20 bill and ask for change. If you are using the VTP or the Alamo Sunpass scheme keep in the two left hand lanes and don't stop. Camera will read your plate for Sunpass or a device will scan your tag for the VTP. Most tolls on the main carriageways are manned but I guess most of them on the on/off ramps are unmanned. Just like this one at j2 off the 417 at Celebration Avenue. The one at j3 to the Osceola is similar. This was $1 back in Nov 2019. Mick
