I did that when I had breakfast in the hotel last year. I stayed at POFQ and the food court is on the way to the bus stop so I just got a bottle of water or fruit juice with breakfast and took it (the drink) with me.

I’m just worried that we won’t get much use out of our refill cups because of it 😔

Save the drinks for your room and to take to the parks. Having drinks in the room will save you having to walk to the refill station all the time

I wouldn’t worry about it one bit because you’re going to have way more food/snack credits than you want/need/can eat.

But then what’s the point of the refillable mug?
Disney do seem to have it wrong with it, if they had a refill point in the parks, but charged a little more it would make it seem more feasible. The refillable mug seems pointless

The refillable mug is for extra drinks at no extra cost. Honestly, the swapping of drinks for snacks only came in a couple of years ago, and prior to that people still got plenty of use out of their refillable mugs, including us. We'd have the QS drink with our meal (usually a cold one) and then get a drink in our mug to take back to our room (usually hot chocolate), or vice versa. It's also handy to use your mugs and save drinks to take to the parks. They're great if you want to spend time at the resort too, have pool day or morning/afternoon - free drinks without having to use snack credits. Drinks in the evenings when watching movies under the stars. They're certainly not pointless and they have many more uses than to just have drinks with meals. This will be our 6th year with a dining plan, and we've seen various changes over the years, but I'm sure we'll still use them plenty

The most use we got out of the refillable mugs was during our resort time (ie pool etc). We’d use them the odd time with meals but most dinners/lunches we had were coming back from the parks so we’d just grab the QS drink instead of going up to room to get the mugs

It was great being able to have them at the pool

I never tried at AKL, as we had enough snack credits anyway, but I'm sure that the CM used to tell me that I could choose any drink from the fridge so we would get a Gatorade or similar to take to the parks.

We are staying at CSR but if they also bring in this policy then I will just make sure I get an alcoholic drink with our meals - even DD's!

When we had QSDP back in 2012 you had meal, dessert and drink with lunch and dinner for a meal credit (plus 2 snack credits per day and refillable mug). Back then you couldn't get alcohol on the credit so we took orange juice to use in the park the next day.

The refillable mugs are also good for tea/coffee/hot chocolate. I’d personally get a alcoholic drink from the food court for taking back to the room when getting a meal rather than a soft drink.
