Yes, flew into FLL this year, stayed in the area for a few days before moving up to Orlando.
It took a fair amount of time to get through the airport and get the car, mainly due to a bottleneck at Border Control and a long wait for a shuttle bus to the rental lot. Avis were pretty quick and no hard sell. Fort Lauderdale itself is a lovely city, really enjoyed our stay there. |

Have flown direct into FLL twice now.Immigration was a little slow this October but was due to 3 flights all arriving in close proximity and only 3 immigration officers on duty.
If there is a large queue for the shuttle to the car hire center it is possible to come out of the terminal and turn left. Walk past terminal 3 and then 2 . this gets you to terminal 1 which you can go into and use the lift to get to the walkway across the road to the car hire center. I have not tried this myself but by all accounts it is a ten minute walk. We have waited 30 mins for the shuttle bus on 1 occasion. |

Not flown into Fort Lauderdale but stayed there pre-cruise in a hotel called Lago Mar Beach Resort. It was more expensive than some other places but had no resort fee or car parking fees so actually overall probably worked out about the same. It was beautiful... I could have stayed there for 3-4 nights, it was blissful. Lovely pool area and right on a white sandy beach.

We flew into and stayed one night at Fort Lauderdale just now. Lovely place, beautiful beaches and lots to do! We only stayed one night but wished we had more time. We stayed at the Westin beach resort and it was gorgeous, they do charge a resort fee but overall came out as good value for a beach front hotel. Flight into FLL was fine and through immigration in 15 mins. Everyone is directed to kiosks but we had to queue to see an agent anyway.
