We’re not in London but close by train (Wiltshire). Added bonus is that our daughter lives in London and works in London/Europe/Japan and has a great two bedroom flat we can stay in when we are up for theatre and she’s away.

One of our Groomsmen is working on the Les Mis Tour at the moment They’ve just opened in Dublin.
We are going to London to see it as our theatre is pretty fully for 2019 and 2020 is also looking pretty chocka so not sure when/if we’re getting it.

We keep getting regular emails from WMC with new shows being added well into 2020. We seem to be booking tickets earlier and earlier 😀. I booked our Les Mis tour tickets on day of release as we particularly wanted seats on our Wedding Anniversary, but I’ve noticed since that they are almost sold out for all dates and this is December 2019/January 2020. Gives us something nice to look forward to 😀

Hi everyone, another theatre goer here. My dd is 16 next year and I would like to get a show booked in London probably in July for her birthday. We already have tickets for Matilda in Edinburgh (April) and Dirty Dancing in Glasgow (May). Any recommendations for ticket websites for London shows and any decent hotels close-ish to theatre land that don't cost the earth? Any help much appreciated 😀

We saw Matilda on Saturday at WMC in Cardiff. Matilda is DD’s favourite childhood Roald Dahl book and we were all really looking forward to seeing it. We did enjoy it, but didn’t love it. We felt the songs were weak and the story seemed rushed through and disjointed. It is very unusual for us to not particularly love a musical but sadly Matilda just wasn’t one of our favourites. It was still a nice afternoon out (went to the matinee performance) Looking forward to lots more shows in 2019 😀

We went yesterday (matinee) Thought staging was good and performances (esp Matilda) were strong. Overall I enjoyed it. The kids, however, loved it. I guess the story and the average ago of the cast just make it appealing to kids.
On the other side though, because it was the matinee showing during the Christmas holidays, the audience was full of kids and grandmas. Including my party. But, the crisp packet, sweetie rustling, not very quiet at all whispering was somewhat distracting I would imagine if you were a purist. A group of lovely older ladies immediately behind me had a twenty minute discussion during the first half about their favourite quality street. They had two tubs worth between 10 of them which they had decanted into the world's rustliest carrier bag. Found it really hard to hear at some points. ☹️ |

So pleased you enjoyed it, we agree the staging was very good, maybe as an adult only group we just found the show less appealing.
I sympathise about the ladies behind you, I think we have sat in front of the same ones in WMC 😀 . We went to the matinee of Grease a couple of years ago and there was a group of ladies behind us who had their chocolates out munching away and singing and chatting throughout the whole show. We often go to matinees throughout winter months as we have to travel there and back and sometimes the roads aren’t the best in the evening but I do prefer evening performances for the atmosphere. |
