Oh good, the bus should also be able to take them to Hollywood and other areas. I’m not familiar with the buses but I have seen the blue buses on the roads. That hotel is at the outer limits of Santa Monica, you wouldn’t want them walking around there too much so the bus stop being near is a big plus. One of the things about LA is that it’s such a car culture there’s very few people walking the streets away from the tourist areas and it can be hard to assess how safe a neighbourhood is and it’s also a bit unnerving when there’s no other pedestrians around. Make sure they also have Uber/Lyft and use that too. Sounds like a wonderful trip. Which coach are they using between Washington and NYC. I’ve taken Megabus and Greyhound between Philadelphia and New York and I can recommend Megabus. Greyhound was a bit, um, interesting. Lots of odd characters in the bus station and on board.

Thanks for all your advice and info landandword 17, that hotel isn't booked yet I wish they'd go for something a bit more expensive though.
The coach to New York from Washington is a Peter Pan coach ! No Disney connection lol, have you heard of that ?

I love SFO but we skipped it last time as 3 nights at holiday in fisherman’s half was £1000 and it’s no better than a premier inn.
Fisherman’s Whalf Union square etc are safe enough but as others have said there are some very dodgy areas. I have worked doors where Angels fear to tread but SAN Francisco is the only city in the US where I have ever been worried. For this reason it’s imperative that the hotel is in the right area. |

Thanks sew109, they're not going to San Francisco now, but they're deciding on a budget hotel in LA 😮
