I’m really surprised at this policy, before my current workplace my background was all hospitality and hotels and it was always one large pre auth (hold) on a guests card at the start. E.g if a guest stayed with us for 2 weeks at £100 per night not prepaid we would take on check in a hold of the cost of the stay plus £25 per day incidentals so a total of £1750. Alternatively they could pay up front and have no charging privileges.

I personally would prefer if Disney took a £1000 hold at the start and then if I exceeded increased the hold or took the money. I have a credit card with a reasonable limit (5k) that I intended to swipe in and then pay off with Revolut card every few days to keep track of spends. I wonder if they’d do that if asked? I don’t mind the holds at all just don’t want them to charge the CC.

So I cleared ours on day 4 and then it was cleared again overnight (3am) as that was day

To be honest this whole thing is chaotic. They keep removing our charging ability as the system keeps clearing my CC details so my MagicBand keeps declining and then I have to trek to reception (6. Times this trip) to activate it again.

Def take a card with you as back up

And also they can no longer preload gift cards onto the account so you have to time paying off your account with them so your cc doesn’t get hit first.

This new system doesn’t sound like it should be a problem, but for some reason (and I could be in the minority) this has been awful this holiday and I have spent probably circa 3-4 hours in reception so far getting it sorted
I may be being a little dim here, but if you cleared the balance on day 4 what did they take on day 5?

This is really concerning me for our upcoming holiday and I'm weighing up different options.

Would be useful to know how often/at what point did they put an extra $100 hold on the card?

Oh this making my head hurt!

I’ll just be paying for everything including tips with cash and just use the magicband for my tickets and Fastpasses. I’ll just tell them I don’t want to charge anything and remove the card off my account.

I think they take another $100 hold IF you’ve stayed below the original $100 hold so technically you now have a $200 hold

If however your u spend €101 dollars per day everyday another $100 hold will be out on,

I’m still waiting for the reply to my email to Disney to clarify the whole hold v money taken v costs

As soon as I do I will update the thread with thier reply

It's confusing but my understanding is, and again I'm waiting for wdw to email me back

$100 hold. After 5 days of debt not cleared be it €5 over the hundred. Remember it's any spending that takes you above the hold

So $100 hold check-in

Day2-5 €10 snacks charged to room

= €110

Day 5 €10 removed from CC and €100 hold remains BUT people are reporting an additional $100 hold bring added every 5th day regardless

I will clarify as soon as wdw reply
This is my understanding of the amount they will hold. So in essence, if you have a credit limit that matches or exceeds your planned spending and you aim to either pay off the balance before the card is charged, or plan for it all to be charged to the card, you should be fine. The problems occur when you use a debit card, pre paid card or your credit card limit doesn’t match planned spending as you hope to use an alternative means to pay it off.

Have I got it right?

Yes

Technically if you stick to under $100 a day you’ll have holds of $300 roughly at the end

If you have spends of over $100 you’ll have holds on the card of $100 for every day you go over. So if you spend $101 daily then after 15 days you could have holds of $1500 . Even if your u clear it within the five days using cash or whatever

I think it’s the rolling holds that’s causing the issues as it’s eating into credit alllowances.

I’m hoping Disney will clarify this to me soon, I’ve given them different scenarios and asked them various questions

The policy states: if you choose to place a payment card on your resort folio account for expenses and incidental charges, the following terms and conditions apply

Therefore if you’re worried, just decline to put a credit card on file. It just means that your won’t be able to pay for things using your magic band and charge things to the room but this seems like a fair compromise if large holds will cause you more problems. My understanding is also that the card you use for securing any ADRs will not automatically be used as the card for the room.

That wasn’t how I read it. I read it as $100 over and above any balance on the account at all times. So $100 initially, I charge $100 to the account so now a $200 hold. Is that not what’s happening?

That’s how I read it.

And a credit card limit = To planned spend isnt going to work as you’ll end up with a hold of £1400 for a few weeks plus your actual charges will be taken. So you could need double the amount of credit as you actually need.

To be honest I don’t get the point of the hold as it doesn’t seem to convert into the actual charge so I don’t see how it helps the hotel guarantee they can get their money anyway. If the £100 hold became the £100 charge when you’d spent that much it would make more sense to me.
