Mobile advice on family day trips outside of orlando

we are due to travel to Orlando in about 6 weeks for 3 weeks over Christmas and new year. we have all the parks booked including discovery cove but are wanting to get out and about doing some sight seeing etc but unsure where to visit. my partner really wants to visit miami but we have been told a long drive and not much to see or do. Other places Wev heard of are clearwater, naples, Fort myers, sarasota but lots of different reviews. I think Clearwater is a must for the beach but would love to hear any feedback or advice for anywhere else. we have two children 2 and 8 so looking for somewhere for families.
many thanks x

Come to St Augustine for one evening, it's "Night of Lights". The whole city is lit by millions of white lights. Special trolley tours, hot cocoa and cookies.

There's plenty to do, if you don't want to drive back at night.

It won't be nights of lights though (only Thanksgiving until end of January).
