Feel so sorry for my brother...
My brother has worked for a small local company for the past 19 years which closed its doors yesterday. He and the other employee had been made redundant statutory notice given etc. His sole employer is now trying to wriggle out of paying his redundancy payment and the other guys suddenly claiming the business is insolvent even though it traded up and 2 including the last day.
My brother did everything he could the past couple of years above and beyond his job description to keep the business Afloat extra hours without paying ect. They got paid the last week's wages on Thursday but the only turned round yesterday and said there's no redundancy payment they are going to have to apply to the government which my brother says is incorrect because the business is not insolvent he's trying each and every way to not pay what is due. Lucky enough my brother had presence of mind to join a union a few months back and will be taken advice on Monday. As the doors closed for last time the employer turned around and asked them both if they will come back during the week cash in hand to finish closing down. Both of them just walked away without a word they are both so upset about the way they have been treated so sadly at the very end. Sorry to ramble on does anyone have any experience or advice. Thanks |

This happened to my DH a few years ago. The company went into receivership and closed the doors. About 50 staff left with no wages that month, some married couples.
He was employed by the receivers for the next 4 weeks to dispose of assets and get all paperwork together so we were lucky that they released his wages and paid a further 4 weeks. He received his notice period and statutory redundancy via the government. It was all straight forward, just took a few weeks. I'm sorry this has happened to your brother. Hopefully he'll get sorted quickly. |

So sorry for your brother he is best going his Union who can gave him the best advice. I loss my job 2 years ago I have found it was the people I worked with I missed the most hope he get some good news soon. The only way I know to check a company is companies house website which it what I used to use in my previous job role as I was a credit controller, it would gave me a good idea if a company is no longer trading insolvent.

If not in a union, My advice would be to walk away and apply via the Government.
Any other fight, will include aggravation and anguish when really, it is time to move on and look forward. Sorry for his situation. Disney332

Surely unless they've declared bankruptcy they gave to pay him off!
I was made redundant when the company I worked for went into receivership. The union sorted out all the payments owed out so I'm sure he will be fine
