Extra cover on car hire
When taking out a car hire policy how many people add the Premium which includes windscreen, tyres, towing and underside of the car and is it worth the extra costs

I’ve never taken it in almost 30 rentals. I’ve no idea what you’d actually claim for with that.
Got rear ended on the I4 once. Car was a write off. Tow truck kindly dropped us off at Portofino bay. Nothing to pay whatsoever. I put the top down on a convertible not realising there was a bag in the way. Smashed the back windscreen. Took it back for a new car and had nothing to pay. Who checks the underside of the car. If it falls off you’d just take it back for a new car or if it’s not driveable they’d send someone out and switch it. |

In 50 years of driving I've only lost 2 windscreens so I don't bother.

I have never taken the extra insurance however driving out of Washington a few years ago I had a puncture and managed to pull into a local garage . After a phone call to Alamo they authorised a temporary repair and I had to then drive to an Alamo depot to change cars. As instructed I paid for the repair and Alamo refunded it no problem.

I've not taken it before, it has worried me slightly what would happen if I got a puncture however. I would always make sure you get a zero excess regardless though. I once had a car hit in a car park and that car drove off without leaving any note (not in florida), it was a bit more of a pain as I had to pain and then claim it back, but in most cases with florida rentals the zero excess is with the car hire company so its easy.

Mike. Quite often Auto Europe offer this free.
Personally I never take it. The windscreen contrary to common belief is covered anyhow. Punctures and towing are their responsibility not the hirer. Undercarriage damage is only caused if you go off road which I suspect none of us do. However for example you hit a rock on the I4 that has fallen off a truck and rip out the sump etc. Not your fault so down to the car hire company.
