Whenever my parents have taken our kids abroad, I’ve always included our passport and contact numbers so that the authorities have something to check if needs be.

in my humble opinion...
If they didn't make the checks on arrival to the UK/US it would potentially mean that more children could be trafficked without being spotted. While it may be a bit of a hassle to get the copies of passports etc, perhaps you should consider this as part and parcel of the checking in process. (ESTA, Passport, letter of authority for kids etc.) While they should be polite and pleasant to deal with, they are not there to welcome you home to the UK. They are there to make sure you are who you say you are and that the people travelling with you (if under age) are authorised to travel with you. Sometimes they will ask standard questions like... What's your house number? How old are you? What is your middle name? What is your mum/dad's name? Other times they might ask something like... Did your Dad go on the big rides? or I bet your Mum didn't go on the big rides...Not to be silly but to gauge their reaction. all makes sense to me. |
