What's next after GCSEs?
I hope after the last stressful week of waiting for GCSe results, everyone's child got the grades that they deserved.
My daughter was very happy with hers and we were very proud. She is now off to the local Sixth Form to do A Level Media Studies, A Level Film Studies and BTEC Criminology. Think, school is going to be very different though when they all return. What is everyone else planning to do? |

My daughter is staying on at school sixth form, she is doing English lit, French, drama, performing arts and Welsh Bac.
Shes had a stressful with week with some 'so called friends'acting like little Madams, but shes lucky she has 2 good friends. Unfortunately (thoigh fortunately for her 😀 one of them is not staying on at school so daughter has been worried she is going to have no friends if the other girl isn't in. Some of the downright meanness displayed by some of the girls has made me feel for my daughter- shes a sensitive soul. I keep trying to gee her up telling her she may make some new friends at a a-level but it is hard. |

We’ve had the same this past few months stemming from me sticking to the rules re Covid and other parents letting the kids do what they want (going in cars, indoor parties, staying over etc) now my Dd is out the loop and those staying on at sixth form with her are leaving her out.
It’s hard saying to a 16 year old who is sobbing her heart out that they are not worth it 💔 |

My daughter is staying on at school sixth form to study A levels in Physics, Biology and Geography.
None of her friends are studying any of the same subjects so she’s hoping to make some new friends. She knows a couple of people that are taking one of two subjects the same and has been chatting with them over Snapchat.

OP my daughter would love those subjects your dd is doing!
She originally didnt even want to apply to school 6th form and wanted to go to one of the local 6th forms. Not being able to do the transition days scared her though and now staying at school! Shes doing Alevels in Music, Drama and Theatre and Media Studies. Shes doing her EPQ on Serial Killers, we just need to think of an actual title and direction for it!

Making new friends at A Level is relatively easy. Loads of people move around at sixth form and as people narrow down to just three subjects the need to interact with people you didn't really spend time with before increases
She will be just fine, the first few days might be a bit bumpy but after that she will forget she was ever worried |

DS is doing an Electrical Installation foundation course at college with a view to securing an apprenticeship next year hopefully.
He was hoping to go straight into an apprenticeship but unfortunately due to Covid he had to change his plan. |

DD is staying at the school sixth form to do A-level drama, English lit and biology she was toying with history as well but has decided realistically that she wouldn’t have the time away from school to give to 4 subjects due to all her dance and singing commitments. I’m not sure how she’s feeling about it to be honest, I think she’s very much viewing it as a stepping stone to what she really wants to do- I hope that gives her enough motivation to work hard!

My son was looking at doing A level Media & A level Film studies but he would have done English Literature as his 3rd choice. But our local sixth form was not offering them so he would have had to travel to college. So after looking at colleges he's chose to a UAL Level 3 extended diploma in Film & Media. I need to drop him off tomorrow to enrol 😊

DS is off to study A-level English LIT/Lang and a MT performing arts diploma.
Different college to all of his school friends as the obvious choice for our area is rubbish for performing arts. I’m not sure he’s bothered but it does feel like a big step. I think it’s good though to leave the bubble you’ve grown up in. We’ll see.
