St.Augustine
Hi has anyone made the trip to St.Augustine. If so is it worth the drive and roughly how long did it take to get there?
Thanks |

I thought about this for our trip last month. I think I'd worked it out that it would probably take about 2 hours to get there. As I'm not too fond of driving on unlit roads (it gets dark early) or boring interstates in the dark (or boring interstates in the daylight either) we decided not to go.
I've looked at a couple of websites and it looks very nice. Would think about doing the trip if we went in longer daylight hours, or if we were to spend a night there. |

I dont mind driving so I thought we might have a look. Meant to go last time but didnt ever find time. This year Im going to try my best to spend a day away from the parks and get a little culture! |

ST Augustine is great for a change from the theme parks- a very pleasant town and one with a bit of history! There are a few touristy places/museums to visit the highlight being the genuine fort overlooking the bay made out of compressed shells (a stone called coquenna, or something like that). It's about a 2 1/2 hr drive from Orlando, my DW always insisted we have arest stop on the outskirts at Walmart ! I'm surprised we ever made it into the centre of town. Good luck

Hampton Inn & Suites Oceanside, Vilano Beach, just a short walk over the bridge to St Augustine's historic downtown seafront.
St Augustine is definitely worth the trip, a pleasure to walk around. |
