How important is use year to a UK owner?

So taking the current COVID situation out of the equation(I'm hoping there won't be another pandemic in my lifetime) how important is use year to an international buyer?

We anticipate taking trips in May and October for the next 10 years or so but could also do trips in February or August. Once the kids are no longer coming we will definitely be most likely going for Flower and Garden or Food and Wine.

Obviously there doesn't appear to be an ideal use year unless you travel at the same time every year and being able to rearrange for the same year should you need to cancel is a little harder; getting time off work, affordable flights, etc when you live this side of the pond.

Am I best just looking at contracts for best value, banked points, etc rather than looking at a specific use year?

Ignoring covid and taking your point about traveling at different times of the year etc then this would be the best approach I think.

With such a big spread month's wise I'd look at the one most likely & then cover that with the booking window, possibly any of the early year ones. Avoid choosing a UY that's between May & Oct as ideally you want to be in in the "Use" part of any UY thus allowing you to "Borrow" if need be.We are always in deficit with ours so on a Jun UY it generally means that holidaying before Jun restricts our points usage but we are also nearly always Sept travellers- May next year being the exception but that's because of cancelling Sept this year.

As a DVC member that would be looking at traveling in February, May, August and October the best use year for you is February. Your banking window with February is until the end of September. So if something crazy happens in your life causing you to have to cancel an October reservation you will be still be in your banking window until end of September. You have to cancel 31 days prior to checking in to have your points go back as normal so you would be canceling in September and still able to bank the points.

February use year keeps you covered on your travel months.
