Still not sorted a car out yet!

I think we must have missed all the good deals
My husband want a SUV and we need it from 14th July to 13th August so 4 weeks & 2 days.
We was hoping to pay £7-800 but no chance, it’s well over a grand
Are we missing something? Or is it just tough
We are a family of 5 with a pram so we need something bigger than standard 5 door car
Any advice?
Thanks

We was late booking as well, we booked last weekend and go 16th August. We got the grand dodge van (7 seater) for £760 through holidays autos but that's an Alamo car. With full insurances and the extra protection, plus additional driver. Its for 19 days. When we was looking months ago it was around the £5-600 mark, I am gutted.

Maybe look who we booked through and see if you can get similar price to us. Its a 7 seater with a fair size boot so might work out a little cheaper then the SUV?

Who are you checking with? also have you tried splitting it into 2 bookings as that might help the price?

It may be a case of being too late to the party

OP. Sorry but you are far too late to get a good deal. What compounds the problem is the vehicle size as that skews prices as the bigger the car the bigger the seasonal price fluctuations

Best I can find for you is a Standard SUV for £867 with Avis. I think you will all fit.

Will check that out. We would be happy with that price at this late stage 👍🏻

Hi Floridatilly,

Don't despair! I was going to book with Virgin and then checked BA yesterday. Went ahead and booked with BA as it was £50 cheaper than Virgin for our 17 day rental in August for a Group F - Large -Ford Escape SUV. I just put your dates in and its £812 for the same car - fully inclusive. Additional driver if you're Exec club.

Apparently if you join Avis Preferred, on arrival you skip the queues and can pick out of a line of cars in the same group size if there is another one you prefer.

Good luck! Hope this helps a few people!

I have found over the years that renting a car is not a one day job. Book through a company that will allow you to cancel without charge and then check the prices every day. Its bound to go down at some stage. My booking with Alamo Brits for a standard SUV for 28 days in September has dropped from £784 to £702.
