Things you no longer hear nowadays.

For instance, Citizens Arrests, can we still do this in the UK?

When I was a lad in the 70s I think, perhaps hearing it on TV, possibly on sitcoms to be honest, upstanding folk used to do this on a regular basis.

I imagine that if you tried to carry one out today, you’d get your head to play with.

I have a particular repeat offender in mind who NEVER picks up after their dog.
edit- I’ve no idea where they live as this takes place on moorland, used by many folk and it’s always on the footpath where I walk.

Scrumping.
This was probably the naughtiest thing I did as a kid lol!
You never hear of kids going scrumping these days.
Happy and carefree times

There was one street that had apples, plums, strawberries, raspberries etc. but the oldies who lived there also owned dogs and didn’t bat an eye on letting them loose LOL

Also, we used to have a “grand national” basically every kid in the neighbourhood running through gardens, over hedges and fences on the longest street in the area.
The small, slow, young and injured, those who sprained an ankle were generally caught by unhappy householders my folks being one of them.
Innocent days.

Question = What are you doing in the summer/tattie holidays?

Answer = going to the berries/tatties to pay for my new uniform and I get to keep the rest.

Sad times indeed, that work during the holidays taught me so much.

You never hear cars back-firing while driving along. It was commonplace in the 1960’s !

“Gannin for a canny bag of tudor”

We Geordie kids were always saying it in early 80’s.

Taking a line for the messages.

It means to take a shopping list. My Nan used to send me to the store (co op) for her groceries and I had to take her message bag. It was heavy as I first had to return the empty lemonade bottles and buy more, and there was always a half stone of tatties to buy as well as other stuff. I used to get a sixpence for running the errand 😃
