So, the only data TP can use are the wait times posted by Disney.

And again, TP themselves state that the “observed wait times” - i.e. the wait times that they state to be “true” and the wait times they themselves are trying to match with their predictions beforehand - are the ones posted by Disney. They compare their predictions with Disney posted wait times to see how correct they were (and to produce adjusted wait times) - which assumes they believe Disney’s posted wait times to be correct. See earlier comments on that statement.

What TP does is predicts what they think the wait times will be at different times during the day beforehand. And, for some people, this can be useful. They do seem to go overboard with their graphs and analysis for my liking - I think most people prefer to see a brief summary of the conclusions (eg. “wait times are shorter during the first hour and after 6pm and see a dip during the 3pm parade”) rather than a confusing graph - but that’s just my view.
