You can see availability once you start the application for a visa on the appropriate site. I don’t think you can make an appointment without paying the visa fee first though, maybe it’s different if you phone first. My FIL went to Belfast to have his sorted, appointment I think was about 10 days thenpassport back within another week.

Same here. I'm going in September and booked it April last year. As soon as I'd received confirmation of my reservation from Disney I did my ESTA. I paid £50 deposit and didn't want to pay out any more before getting my ESTA. If I have to lose money I'd rather lose £50 than thousands.

I really want to do ours, not going until end of July 2019 but I like everything in place well in advance so I can relax. However, the eldest's passport expires in May next year but she turns 16 beginning of Jan so I'm going to apply for her adult passport the day she turns 16 and apply for the Esta as soon as it comes back. Hopefully this will give us plenty of time.

Yes he answered a question wrong that couldn’t be reversed. He went to Belfast, all seemed straight forward and had passport returned quickly after. He was told once it expires he can apply for an ESTA as normal. Quick turnaround but expensive error to gave to go down visa route!

We had a similar situation last year as our son turned 16. To make sure we had everything in place we went with the 5 year passport as we also thought that when he’s 25 he might not want the photo of, or resemble the 15 year old youth in the picture any more.
