American Airlines through BA

Hi folks,

I'm looking to book a BA holiday and the flights are with American Airlines. Does AA charge for seat booking if you book through BA Holidays?

I have the choice to fly with BA directly for very similar money, but as I'm flying from Dublin that routes us through LHR. Whereas AA routes us to PHL, then onwards to MCO. So we get the bonus of using the Dublin Airport US pre-clearance

We booked a custom trip with BA.
Our BA flight we have to pay for seat allocation, all of our AA flights (we booked one stop there and back) we can choose out of limited seats for free but the preferred, legroom etc seats are an upcharge.
Not sure if this is the case for every booking and if it's because of the way we booked.

You can select your seats almost immediately once you book (reference number is issued within 24 hours but you're immediately allocated seats) but on any AA flight there are certain seats toward the front of the economy section that have charges applied to them.

Not sure if those seats free up when OLCI opens 24 hours before

As far as I know Main Cabin Extra and Preferred seats are chargeable even during online check in. The "Standard" seats for which there is no charge are either situated at the rear of the aircraft in normal blocks or as middle seats only between MCE and Preferred in the front section of Economy.

We’re booked with AA through BA and our seats were preselected within 3 hrs. I found the AA ref on the booking and used that to change them to seats that suited us better. No charge for standard seating in main cabin

When I changed our allocated seats a few days ago there was plenty of seats open to us on all our flights, window seats included and were able to book all five seats together with no problem at all.

Depending on the plane used the Standard seats which are free are in the rear section of the cabin so include windows/aisles (for example on a 3-3-3 layout on DUB-PHL). It is only the Standard one in the front part of the cabin which are in between the window and aisle seats.

The screen shot shows part of the cabin used on a 787 Dub to Phl flight.

Blue are Standard and free of charge
Orange are Main Cabin Extra and Chargeable
Green are Preferred and Chargeable

Hope that makes sense.

Sorry to jump on this thread, but I’ve just booked American Airlines flights through BA today but when I put my confirmation number into AA, it’s not recognised. Is there another number I need?

You need the AA ref, I had to use a laptop to find it as couldn't get it on my mobile. Go to the seat selection on BA and the last page before you click to go to the AA site has both numbers shown.
