You'll want to add the other people on by the time you'd want to make your park reservations though. I wouldn't leave it right until the week before unless you're not too bothered which parks you can get into on which days.

Thanks. We're actually staying in a villa first so if we stayed at Disney it would just be a hotel only booking. I'll probably buy tickets separately from Attraction tickets soon so we can make reservations and add on the cancellation cover.

we had a 2020 booking direct with Disney. I just called them up and spoke to a rep who said yes no issues and refunded me all the money.
Just had to make sure I cancelled my dining requests as they would've charged me had I not shown up.

If you book a hotel on the US Disney website as room only the deposit is the cost of the first night stay but you can cancel without penalty up to 7 days before arrival and get a full refund. Flights are a different matter, but with BA you can add car hire or a night at an airport hotel before flying and just pay a deposit when booking.
