Another example of why I would not use a travel agent and secondly would not book over say 9months ahead.

As for not booking more than 9 months ahead, if the wrong date is booked then it doesn't matter when it's booked. Although the more time between the arrival date and the date of discovery the better.

If you book less than 12 months ahead you can’t get the wrong year.

TUI are your agent they don’t own the hotel do they ?

No they are a tour operator.
A travel agent is a business who sells other people's products (e.g. sells other airlines and tour operator's products)
In this case the OP has booked direct with TUI not through a middle man (travel agent)

No the OP has bought a package direct from a tour operator (wholesaler if you like), confusingly had he booked it from a TUI shop however ... he'd have booked with an agent !

Of course you can, I have once booked in December for the following April. That's less than 12 months. x
