Kefalonia- where shall I stay what should I do ?

We love Kefalonia and have booked again for September fingers crossed. We usually stay in Lourdas as it has a nice beach and some lovely tavernas. Spiros and Cafe Platanos are our favourites and the latter has views to die for from the terrace. It’s fairly quiet and traditional, but quite hilly so it’s handy to have a car to pop to and from the beach.

Other than that we’ve driven around most of the Island and Agia Efimia and Sami are very picturesque but have pebbly beaches which is why I prefer Lourdas to stay in. From Sami you can catch the ferry to Ithaca which is worth doing. Lassi and Skala are probably the most touristy resorts, but they were both looking very sad and a bit run down when we travelled around last September, due to Covid no doubt.

Lots of lovely places to visit including Assos and Fiskardo. Argostoli nice for shopping and people watching and there’s a lovely little shop called Down the Rabbit Hole run by a Brit which has nice jewellery and bags etc.

Some lovely castles and churches to visit so I would definitely recommend a car as the buses are not great. We’ve also used Pefanis and can recommend.

Near St George’s Castle there’s a cafe with amazing cakes 😋 and a restaurant called the Olive Lounge, which also has great views.
