Hearing Aid user on wet rides
Morning Dibbers
I wear a hearing aid. Have done for over 25 years. As you can see our holiday is in a couple of weeks I always struggle with what to do about my hearing aid on rides. Do I take it out before I get on the ride and miss half the audio (think SM) or do I take it out mid ride, faff on with storing it away, risk dropping it and losing it or it getting soaked on the floor of the car, or do I just leave it in and cover my ear with my hand at the appropriate point? What do other hearing aid users do? Thanks BB Edited at 11:25 AM. |

Fellow hearing aid user here
With Splash I now wear mine & don’t have any issues as the splash isn’t really that big, same with the Rapids at AK but I used to put them in the hard shelled case the hospital gave them to me in & leave them in my bag. I did wear them on Dudleys Ripsaw Falls at IOA thinking the splash would be like Splash Mountain & suffered for it. They were soaked through & took the best part of the day to come back to life lol. Next time I’ll definitely leave them in the locker!

I have been wearing hearing aids for the last four months so still getting used to them. Was wondering the same but think I would take mine off. I am lucky enough to have some hearing without them but they certainly help me out with speech and clarity of what is being said.
I am paranoid about getting them wet although I use mine when out running to Bluetooth my music but if it rains I take them off and store them away in my bum bag. I certainly wouldn’t be happy taking them off a moving ride as I would end up dropping them as you said! Hope you have a lovely holiday! |

My daughter wears hearig aids, she took them out for the very wet rides, and found a hack of putting water balloons over them to protect from an unexpected downpour.

You can get hearing aid sleeves, whilst not waterproof, they are water shedding I believe.
As for losing your hearing aid. I got my Dad a hearing aid keeper (he has dementia) that has an elastic band around the aid(s), linked to a cord and in Dad's case a pretty green frog clip for his collar/clothing (audiology dept keeps them for kids normally).

My 7 year old wears hearing aids and I didn't even think to take them out! We did SM/Kali River Rapids and got absolutely soaked in the worst downpour I have ever seen. They seemed okay but it sounds like it should be something I think more about!

Sorry, didnt mean to make you worry. I used to teach kids with hearing impairments. No doubt that they were much more relaxed about their hearing aids than I was about mine. That might just be because I was deafened as an adult whereas most of the kids I taught were born with impairments or at least were young when when they became deaf. They also had learnng difficulties too so may not have been aware of their aids not functioning. Kids will inevitably find the most appropriate way of communicating for themselves.
