Alamo Brits - what car to get?

Will be 2 ad and 2ch (9 and 6), plus baggage - 4 suitcases and carry on bags. Last time we had a Jeep Compass (was classed as Rav4 or similar) and it was fine, it was a squeeze to get all the cases in but no problem.

This time we are driving from Orlando to South Carolina, so around 6 hour trip. An intermediate SUV (Nissan Rogue or similar) shows as 5 passengers and 2 bags, as does the standard SUV Nissan Santa Fe (or similar). What are peoples experience with these? Would they take the cases (When we went to the airport last time we fitted everything in our VW Tiguan so surely it will fit in these)?

Have seen a standard convertible (Mustang or similar) for only few $$ more... guessing you really cant fit much in that!

We booked a full size car last time and when we collected the 7 seaters were all in the full size row which was great for us to choose.

We've got a Standard SUV booked for our trip and we have 4 adults! We had one when we went in September and there was 2 of us and there was plenty of room in the boot for more luggage (had a Santa Fe) so you'll be fine with a Standard SUV.

Don't even bother considering the convertible for more than 2 people..

See my post towards the bottom of the page at this link to get an idea of boot size 🙂

OP. One case will fit between your young children on the back seat so a full size or a standard SUV will be fine. But!

However you have a long trip and I had a real eye opener this week. My Daughters Partner got involved in a 6 vehicle smash on the A1 and his car was literally in pieces. He had a step ladder in the back of a Mondeo and it got hurled forward and took the headrest right off his seat and stopped by his neck
To that end I wouldn't recommend a case in the car as it's a missile.

Would never have thought of that. Hope all are ok.

OP We are 2 adults and 2 children aged 8 and 13. Prior to last visit we always had Int SUV. It was fine, except for trip back to airport when we had to put one case on back seat between the children. On our last visit in 2015, we went for Std SUV and got a Sante Fe. Hubbie loved it and all luggage fitted in boot on way home. Its an extra €70 for us but well worth it for comfort and after Mr Tom Morrow's post above, safety.

Following, we are 2 as 2 Ch 14 & 9, 4 cases plus hand luggage. We have a standard SUV booked, it was £50 cheaper than a mini van. Hope it is big enough for all the luggage, we are driving to Miami to fly home.

Bloody hell, that was lucky. Hope he had no serious injuries?
