Daytona & St Augustine 1st timers
We are flying out of Jacksonville on our next trip so have decided to spend 2 nights in Daytona and 2 nights in St Augustine on the way to Jacksonville to fly home.
Does anyone have any hints/tips/recommendations for these areas as, despite visiting Florida annually for the past 8 years, this area is totally new to us. |

St Augustine guidebook here. joomag/magazine/flor...50104218?short
Restaurants JP Henley right across from the marina. A1A Aleworks right across from the marina Barefoot Bills, end of the little enclosed shopping row on St George Street, last on the right before you get to the plaza Athena Greek restaurant in the plaza PizzaAlley Chianti Room Italian on Charlotte Street Cuban Cafe on Hypolita 1/2 block off St George Street Burger Bucket corner of Orange and Cordova near the Visitors Information Center/Parking Garage. Harry's Cajun on the bay front. Barley Republic Irish Pub on Spanish Street Mojo's BBQ on Cordova Zaharias Greek on the beach on A1A Cafe 11 on the beach on A1A Casa Maria Mexican (not Tex/Mex) on the beach in the Publix plaza off A1A Hotel info here There's 4 basic areas Old town which is the small historic area old city. Only a few hotels, mostly B and Bs. Uptown just north of the old city, more hotels. I95 and SR16 out by the expressway and Outlet malls, most of the chain hotels, would need to drive downtown. St Augustine Beach condos and hotels, would need to drive downtown 6-10 miles away. Most, if not all, of the hotels would have rooms with 2 queen beds. Some of the B and Bs have suites with 2 bedrooms but they're not cheap |

We visited both last Easter and would go back to St Augustine it really is lovely nothing like anywhere else in Florida and obviously ilivehereorland has given you lots of tips.
In Daytona we stayed at the Hilton and had a great view of the beach and its sunrises but there was a fair ground to the right of the hotel with a massive neon bungee (think old town) not so beautiful it just wasn't for us. A drive further away from the hotel to the Ponce inlet and there was a totally different more relaxed feel. |

Not as good as it used to be. It's become the $1 drink, drunken student hang out.
Sunshine Grill next door is better. Neither are very convenient if youre not staying beachside though, specially if you want a drink. The police lurk around Hatties in the later evening, scooping up idiots. |
