Advice on the best way to do this?
We have friends coming from Australia to meet us next year in Disney. We have DVC and they don’t but want to stay in the same resort (hopefully Saratoga or old key west due to being near Disney springs). We don’t have enough points to get 2 villas, so would you a) rent extra points on their behalf and book both villas (so we could take advantage of any events for dvc) b) get them to rent points c)book direct through Disney or is there another alternative? Any advice welcome. We are going end of July 2019.

Personally, I would book my own then send them the details of when & where, also advising them where to rent from or they could look at the Free Dining offers for same resort, if available.

Shooby gives good advice. I’d be reticent to start booking for them, they could do it themselves, send them to David’s or wherever, July in SSR no problem renting >7 months as tons of availability (just tell them they need to be going to David’s now and asking them to be on a waitlist or when they’ve got to come back).
I’ve found over the years many people can be unreliable and if something goes wrong, you don’t want to be left picking up the tab.

Book your own accommodation first and have them lined up for daves or a private rental in advance.
Your other would be to get a points transfer into your account but you’d need your friends to pay you for the points in case they changed their minds and you were left with extra. |

Dvcrequest.com .
Very good costs calculator interactive chart. Due to shortage of points and increased demand, need to be contacted as early as possible, but I imagine they'll have few problems securing an SSR booking.
