I'm a solo visitor and my main condition is lymphoedema in my legs/feet and the common complication with it is cellulitis, an infection of the deeper layers of skin and the underlying tissue. The first time I had it, it hit me so hard I was rushed to hospital and put on IV antibiotics. The doctors told me it was unlikely I'd have survived the night if I hadn't been. Now I carry normal antibiotics with me wherever I go and they've worked with the attacks I've had of it since then. However there's always the chance I could get another really bad attack of it and end up in hospital again. My other conditions are asthma and high blood pressure. My cover is costing me £104.37 - a very small price to pay if I do end up in hospital there!

It worries me when I tell my travel insurers that they don’t have it recorded correctly.

I phoned them adding that I was undergoing investigations for back and hip pain and told them the current diagnosis, they put it down as a cartilage injury as they didn’t have the correct wording on their drop down list, it didn’t even say where I had the injury.

My DH also had an accident whilst waterskiing and the wound became severely infected, he was off work for two months and antibiotics didn’t work, this was recorded just as a laceration.

Seems all a bit flimsy when disclosure is so important. This is where recorded calls come in, but I’d rather have the peace of mind that it’s all on file!

I remember back in April 2012 I contacted my insurance company to tell them about my husbands changes in medical condition. The withdrew the policy immediately and would no longer cover him. We were going to Florida in the October. We had a nightmare then getting covered for the trip (getting proper decent cover). Eventually got it for over £500.
I actually dread renewing our insurance as I am so worried I will have forgotten something.

I believe it's generally relative to the underwriter, not the selling agent, those employed within insurance could perhaps confirm/deny. One can say ABC Insurers provide bad service, whereas it's DEF Underwriters who make the decisions.

I ascertain/research underwriters before purchase, but our hands are tied by age limitations for pre-existing, 180 day long stay coverage, only a limited amount of underwriters cover hubs post 71 years of age requirements.

I too got a very good quote with Aviva, BUT just before I went to purchase I noticed that the pre-existing conditions that I had declared were not actually being covered?

So, why on earth would I want insurance with them?

Last year we went with Insurancewith, so may try them again.

Me too 😊 we have the Halifax cover that comes with the current account, hopefully I don't need to use it.

Well they can refuse to cover you if you travel but they would then become liable for the cancelling of the holiday? Was this the case but you choose to get coverage elsewhere ? Just interested...

Saying that, my policy would only pay out 5k for a cancelled holiday when the full cost of the holiday is 14k lol

You will probably find it's 5k per person not 5k for the whole Holday.

Cheers.

My 2 boys got a stomach bug the night before we were due to fly home from Minorca about 7 yrs ago- the eldest was really ill- and they both ended up in hospital and we arrived home 3 days after we should have done. Axa (through Lloyd’s bank) were great - only blip was they questioned if they pay for DH flight home as ‘he could have flown home when he should have) - after explaining that being on my own with 2 kids age 3 and 6 wasn’t an option they paid out in full - I’d have paid the £50 flight home for him if they’d have declined that part.

I picked a throat infection up on the flight to Florida a few years ago (there were a number of us on the same flight at the doctors and Walgreens!) $100 For a throat Swab, $150 to see the doc - paid out no hassle again by axa
