jdouds - enjoy your trip planning!

dizzymcfarlane - yes, we drove from Boise back to Denver.
We had an Alamo car, hired through USRentacar. We've always booked through them for all our US trips.
Be careful though - it seems there's almost always a fee for one-way hires these days, & this can all but cancel out any saving on a cheaper internal flight!
We don't regret flying to Boise, but next year we're hoping to fly to & from Bozeman. It's only 90 miles from West Yellowstone - as opposed to 390 miles!

we did yellowstone this year as part of our trip and flew to salt lake city (from orlando) and drove to yellowstone (jackson lake - grand tetons) we did 3 nights and really enjoyed it, we then flew from jackson hole to lax which was great.
Previous trips we have driven to yosemite and sequoia NPs (from/to vegas or san francisco) and done big bear /mammoth
Not sure I would want to drive to yellowstone from west coast (SLC was far enough! )

Hope that helps planning

Sam

Hi again folks, update, flights booked heathrow to Denver followed by short flight to Bozeman the next morning. We will then drive into park via north east entrance at bear tooth pass. 4 nights booked at the canyon lodge, and we will then go to Lake Tahoe via a stop (some golf)yet to be decided . After Lake Tahoe plan to head to San Fran/Monterey .
