I agree MrT, whilst we watch airlines go down the pan we also see fare increases. There's only so much cutting to the bone an airline can do to attract passengers until it becomes untenable.

BA won't buy any airline. It's parent company IAG might though... have no idea what slots would be useful to BA in the UK apart from ones at Gatwick...

Its the short haul (package holiday) network of Monarch which is causing the problems as they cannot compete with Ryanair and Easyjet etc.
The scheduled long haul network is profitable and more likely to survive if they cannot sell the short haul operation.

Oh no. I have been reading on a flight forum that 6 planes from Qatar are on their way to Birmingham and London to step in to bring passengers home. There is still time though, thinking of all of the employees right now.
