The buffet at cape may is quite abit smaller than at chef mickeys and my kids didn't eat that much though they are pretty fussy. The character interaction was good and its calmer but mine still prefer chef mickeys.
I see you've already decided to do chef mickeys but just wanted to say that mine loved it and given the choice of any onsite its the one meal they asked to do again. We're not doing disney next year and I asked them to list the 5 things they would like to do most and top of the list is chef mickeys. Having done breakfast and being on the dining plan we did dinner instead and they really enjoyed that too so maybe consider doing a different meal time to change it up a little you may find the food suits you better too. Id take them to Chef Mickey's for dinner. Same characters but better food and better value for money. A better character breakfast IMO is the 1900 Park Fare. MUCH better food and very fun characters if your kids recognise them. Cape May Cafe is a character breakfast with Minnie Mouse and Goofy (plus others but not Mickey) and also better food.

We always do 7am chef mickeys, quiet, clean and civilised at that time. Never had a bad experience. I'd book it for them personally.
We do our adrs as a family. I narrow down a list but do accept input or do you want x or y. We are doing whispering canyon and biergarten at dh's request. It was easier on first couple of trips when they were clueless and left me too it |

Lovely that the children want to plan and take an interest - mine just tell me to book what I want!
Love Chef Mickeys for breakfast - so exciting - we're lucky enough to have been 5 times and every time we have booked Chef Mickey - in fact this year is the first time we haven't and I am sure the kids will miss it ... oh darn it, I may have to juggle a few things around myself! Hope you join in with the napkin waving for the birthdays in the room! Enjoy the precious time with your children - ours are 20 and 16 this year and so pleased they are coming with us again this year - first time they were 6 and 10 - time goes so quickly so soak it up!

I just want to play devil's advocate for a moment. You have asked them for their opinion - it doesn't mean that whatever they say they want to do you have to go and book!
We did Chef Mickey's for dinner on our last dinner in Feb 2014 and while it wasn't overly packed, the food was pretty non-descript and we didn't really enjoy it. The only reason why I've booked it again for this forthcoming trip is because we're staying at BLT and I want to get as many on site meals as possible. When DD and I did the DDP in 2014 I made the mistake of booking lots of resort ADRs so we were constantly rushing here and there to make them in time (and failed a lot too). I mean, if you're staying at Beach Club anyway, it makes more sense to have your breakfast there, especially as you can't get a bus from one resort to another.
