Talk to me about Thomas Cook

Never flown to Florida or back with anyone but Virgin Atlantic. My first trip as an adult & the budget of a 21 year old just wouldn't stretch to Virgin's prices so had to book with Thomas Cook instead.

What are the differences basically? I don't eat plane food as a rule, and my friends pretty fussy food wise, so not too fussed about that anyway we'll take snacks with us. But are complimentary drinks a thing like on VA or do you have to pay for them? What about the IFE? Particularly interested in opinions of people who have flown both VA and TC.

The guy I'm flying with has never been on a plane at all so thankfully he'll be oblivious to anything & everything & will spend 8 hours fascinated that we're in the sky.

That's disappointing about the drinks. Pretty much the major plus for VA was the constant flow of drinks.

Suppose we'll just stock up in the airport with any spare ££ we have after breakfast.

Used Thomas cook when they flew into Sanford, they are pretty much the same as VA without the free drinks. I find all airline food much the same (Delta is better than average) DW takes snacks and sandwiches bought airside on to most flights as she is a lot more fussy than me.

At the end of the day its a metal tube that you sit in for 9.5 hours to get you somewhere magical

I think that is one of the reasons Thomas Cook is cheaper. You will also get a basic in flight entertainment unless you pay to upgrade to premium movie package.

We have booked to go with them in a few weeks.

You must have been lucky as in all our flights with VA, never had more than a couple of drinks servings, let alone a flow.

Really?

First time flying out when legal to drink last time. Had two beers & a wine...then a few soft drinks. No bother.

Pretty much similar on the way home.

Always had a positive experience with VA but I just cannot afford the difference in price. And if the difference is a more basic IFE and no flow of drinks then so be it. It's only eight hours & it's only going to be me who see's a difference. My friend will think it's utter luxury as he's never flown

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I've been with them a few years ago, and we had to buy the headphones, think they were about £2/3 , or you could buy an adaptor. Is that still the same now ?
( We are flying with them in September )

you can use your own headphones, even after upgrading the films are no where near as good as virgins, but there was nothing wrong with the flight, you do have to buy drinks and snacks

If you're flying from Manchester you also need to be aware that some flights don't have seat back screens. See previous threads on this subject.
