One day in LA?
Please help there are so many options 😬
We are going to have one free day to visit LA or a beach in between our days at Disney. We are visiting relatives in San Diego beforehand so this is our only opportunity to see LA this trip. I really don’t know whether to do Universal, a beach, Hollywood or some mix of them. Please could I have some advice on how to use my day wisely. Also, what would the best method of transport be for getting around? Metro, Uber, car? Thank you 😁 |

We stayed in Redondo Beach, a couple of miles away from the actual beaches.
We hired cycles from Hermosa Cyclery after breakfast nearby. We rode along the strand and stopped off at Manhattan Beach where we visited the Pier and swam in the Ocean. After returning the bikes we walked to Redondo Beach and ate at the Chesecake Factory. It was a great day.

There are beaches everywhere around the whole world. There is only one Hollywood. It is tacky, touristy, but if you like the movies then it is something you should probably consider, maybe combine with a Warner Bros studio tour. Or a drive/tour around Hollywood and Sunset Blvd and down to Santa Monica pier and the even grubbier Venice Beach? Universal Studios is a good option as it combines a theme park with the original studio tour, which is well worth doing. Can't advise on transport as we had a car. You can get day trips from Anaheim if that's where you are based. (I'm sure I've seen a trip report using uber, not cheap as it can take an hour to 2 to travel between the 2 areas).

When we were in the area last year, we only did a one-day visit to the main LA attractions, including the WB Tour. If you were planning on fitting in the WB tour, then I found day 2 of Miked1b’s trip report a great help.
We more or less planned our day along similar lines on a Sunday (to avoid the worst traffic as we were driving from Marina del rey to Hollywood) with an early WB Tour slot, giving us the full afternoon to see the other sights.

Thanks for the advice. You’re probably right about the beach, we should make the most of the city. We are staying in Anaheim, so will have to ge public transport or a car.
I haven’t been to universal studios Orlando before so nothing to compare it to. Is wanted brothers or universal a better studio tour? I’ve seen some bus tours advertised, has anyone had a good experience with these? |

Perhaps look at Disneyland if you have never visited before as this is better for Anaheim.
Universal will be a nightmare drive approx 2 hours but is a full day Warner Brothers is about 3 hours and we had kids 9 and 12. We didn't know a lot of the shows as we don't watch US TV. Still very enjoyable, but Universal studio Tour in the park was much better, but you get the rides... |
