High winds this Saturday!

For those of us scheduled to fly out this Saturday from London, I see The Met Office have issued a Yellow Warning for 'High Winds' which I guess is better than given it a name! Winds of 50mph expected. Any idea how fast wind has to be before an airline will ground it's fleet?

There is no general headwind limit, the major issue is Crosswinds. This is dependant upon the aircraft, but The Captain also has the powered to delay take off outside the Aircrafts cross wind landing certificate.
737 for example, max cross wind is 20-35 MPH.
However most runways are placed to have the wind go down them not sideways over them.

Just checked BBC weather for Gatwick Airport showing significantly lower wind speeds than it was last night..phew

I worked at stansted for years and dont think it ever closed for wind issues however strong. Other airports such as bristol and luton i know have issues but most others are able to cope.

I worked out of Luton for 4 years as cabin crew and never had anything delayed because of wind. Fog yes but not wind. You’ll be fine makes for exciting take off sometimes! I love it
