When we go back we're going to do a rest day on day 1 then a couple of mornings only. My ds7 got migraines on day 2 and 3 plus a rash when we went this year. I think initial chill out is good if you can with younger kids.

We did that this year. We stayed for 18 days, flew on the Monday and had the Tuesday as a Target/Disney Springs day. My DH is always a bit unwell on the first full day so it worked better for us.

Two years ago, went straight into it, everybody was grumpy by lunch.

This years, 5 days at Madeira Beach first, with dolphin watching etc, we had our best day ever at MK yesterday.

Not everybody is the same, but settling in certainly works for us.

Update! We took the plunge and got a few prices ( we are already in a package with Ocean Florida) and two nights at Port Orleans Riverside was only a little bit more expensive than some of the international drive options offered- so for us a no brainier really. And as a bonus managed to wangle getting our flight seats pre booked before the 12 week mark!

We're trying this next time, first couple of days to shop and acclimatise. Last time we went at the parks too hard in an attempt to do everything and bits of it were a blur with DW getting ill too

I never spend my first full day at a park as I can't sleep the night I arrive and I'm then knackered for the first full day! So I have breakfast about 9.00, go to Disney Springs (or Downtown Disney as it was called when I last went there) for the morning, then spend the afternoon at Typhoon Lagoon - have a bite to eat when I'm there - then have dinner at the hotel and an early night. I'm then raring to go on my second full day!

Last year we stayed at Disney first and did a park the first day. I think we then just played catch up for the rest of the week as everybody was tired by lunchtime

So next year we have three night off site first before we check into Disney. Going to do some shopping and relaxing by the pool which will be prefect as we wil have a 1&4 year old

Mainly as we booked flights when they were really cheap and Disney was really expensive for those first few days however I quite like the idea now

After two trips of hitting the parks straight off when we go in 2019 day one will be a rest/pool day.

We has 2 mental days in New York City and then 2 days of rest before we went to Universal. I thought we might be bored but I actually wished we’d booked a second night as we could have happily had another chill day before we lept into the parks.

On the first day we went to universal we moved hotels and went out for lunch so we didn’t get there until about 4 which was lovely as it wasn’t too hot and the park was fairly quiet.
