My son loves these pics! I hope you dont mind I saved one and tweaked it a bit so he can print it out and put it in his room if its OK with you! I did a narrow crop, darkened the sky a bit and boosted the colours to make the red stand out! Will post it with your permission!

Another spotter
I also spent most of my weekend off lurking around Manchester camera in hand, it isa great place to pass a few hours but is spoilt a bit at the minute because the aviation viewing park is a complete mess due to the concord hanger We spent most of Saturday down the far end of 23R at the airport hotel to watch some arrivals and then at 12.00 noon when they went to single runway operation we got to see some line ups for departure, then we spent the last few hours at the AVP The light over the weekend was horrible and it was not easy to get good shots, it is amazing how much difference a little bit of sun on a planes fuselage makes to the picture Here are a couple of shots that I took of the virgin flights on the Sunday and it was a job to get the exposure right and the fuselage is greyish |

theairporthotel is a pub up at the top of ringway road towards heald green, if you head towards terminal three and at the roundabout make a left onto ringway road and the airport hotel is along there on the right it has a huge beer garden that overlooks the end of runway 23R and is good for watching planes on there final approach it has a large covered patio and then the garden that runs down to the airport perimeter fence at the weekend i was using a Canon DSLR with a 17-85 mm and a 70-200 mm, I cant wait for a nice sunny day so I can get out on the bridleway past the new fire station and over the river, that is where the first virgin 747 was taken from and is fantastic for take off shots Edited at 08:16 PM. |

The way I got onto the bridleway was come off the M56 at junction six and head for the aviation viewing park pass the turn off for the AVP and stay on the A538 wilmslow road go under the runway tunnels and as you come out of the second runway tunnel take the first exit off the roundabout towards the crash gate and then take the first right which is a little back lane to the holiday inn, do not park anywhere on the approach to the crash gates even completely off the road on the verge if the police come round you will get a ticket but you are all right on the road that leads down to the holiday inn
From here walk back towards the roundabout face the second runway tunnel and look to your left you will see some steps going up the bank from the roundabout that is the bridle path, a ten minute walk from this point will take you behind the new fire station and over the river bollin, as you climb up from the river bridge the bridleway runs parallel to the second runway and it is raised above the perimeter fence so you have an unrestricted view It was a bit muddy on Sunday so good boots or wellies were the order of the day |
