Another possibly silly question.
Do the halls if residence provide a new mattress each year? Or will it be the same mattress that previous students have used?

If it is a used mattress can you replace it? Are you actually allowed to throw the one that comes with the room away or is that the universities property?

I suppose at the worst you could put a memory foam topper on it.

Also, do the rooms come with blinds and curtains? Can you change them?

Pretty sure it’s not a new mattress. But we did buy a topper as it wasn’t very comfy
There were curtains and we didn’t change them.

My daughter does English with Creative Writing in Lincoln and loves it.

You could certainly change the mattress and curtains, but you would have to put them back before she handed the keys back, otherwise the charges will be astronomical!

I seem to recall a friend saying they couldn’t change the curtains in her dd’s halls as it was part of the t’s & c’s. You also can’t drill into walls etc so I don’t think you’d be able to put a blackout blind up unless you order those clip in perfect fit ones.

Most people I know haven’t replaced mattresses but have taken a decent mattress topper with them.

I think you’d need to be careful as any changes you make could end up costing you in terms of fines/charges etc.

My 2 went to Edge Hill (well DS is still there). The best and most reasonably priced halls of all the universities we viewed and with blackout blinds 👍 Mattresses weren’t the best but we bought mattress toppers. You won’t be able to bin the mattress that’s provided but you can do the basics to make life more comfortable. Each room also has a mini fridge inside the wardrobe and a TV.
