Just to add too - if you're staying onsite at Disney, you can ask for a sharps bin, and they'll get someone to bring one to your room

DW is Type 1 and has been for 45+ years now. Advice from her is similar to what's been said. Keep all your supplies in hand luggage, never put it in the hold. Have a letter from your GP practice, since 1992 she's only ever been asked for it once though. She doesn't use Frio wallets, but each to their own. Insulin supplies are kept in the hotel fridge from when we arrive.

Her main advice is to keep testing your Blood Sugar levels. The heat/sunshine appears to increase the effectiveness of the insulin and you are generally walking miles around the parks so using more energy. On the other hand, almost everything you eat in the USA has a higher sugar/carbohydrate level than similar food we have in the UK. The end result is that you need to test more than you would normally do.

So glad I found this post - travelling with insulin for the first time next year and this has answered most of the questions I would have asked!

Hi everyone thank you so much for all the advice,
sorry for the delay in replies DH not been well.
His medication for his Pemphigus has been changed still on steroids but the immune suppressor has been stopped, now taking dapsone which apparently plays with blood sugar so we are all over the place at the moment with the insulin trying to get sugars down from high 20s!
DVLA have been informed and form has just arrived.
Have ordered a Frio wallet with sharp bin thank you for that.
I think we are going to have to take about 10 pens with us just still a bit unsure on how I keep them between 2-8.
We are staying at an airport hotel the night before so insulin can stay in their fridge until 4am then it will be out. Flight is at 7am arriving in Miami at 3pm then 4 hour drive to Orlando before it can be put in Disney fridge.
Will putting them just in a Frio wallet be ok or should I use something else sorry for all the questions but just want to make sure I get this right.
Thanks again for all the help😀

DD is T1 too!

Just a word of warning for the Frio pouches - when you aren’t using them take them out of the outer pouches - otherwise they can get that horrible stinky smell of badly dried clothes - not pleasant
