How do you 'save'

I'm interested as to how everyone saves for their holiday. I personally put £400 a month away which will pay for the holiday and the park tickets. Once they are paid I will concentrate on spending, and will continue to put £400 a month to the side.

BUT I have also developed an obsession for 'saving'. It started with a Pot of dreams for £2 coins, which I've discovered are few and far between (everyone likes to save them apparently) Then I started to add, £5 notes and £1 coins to it to compensate for the shortage in £2 coins . I have also started to collect silver coins and put them in a large soap and glory tin, which has already about £150 in.

What other ways do you Dibbers save 'extra money', and have any of you ended up with surprisingly more than you expected.

I am really annoying my husband as I rush to raid his pockets every day

Exact same, I have a tin which cannot be opened and put my change into it so I can’t remove it unless I use a tin opener!

We have 2 car boots a year. I don’t know how we accumulate so much stuff but they usually raise between £200/£300. Do online shopping through Quidco cash back, again this usually brings in about £300 a year. Other than that pretty much the same, direct debit saving each week and change tins. Always get the tins you have to open with a can opener so we can’t dip in.

I have never thought of the Quidco option, how does it work and what shops do you save with?

Just sign up on Quidco and when you shop online just go through the Quidco app. Most of the main shops are on there. I find the best earners are insurance products and the utilities.

I've never understood the £2 coins in a jar for saving. If I saved all my £2 coins I'd just have to go to the bank more often to get out more cash.

But I do understand making sure I use all my coins, as smaller coins often get overlooked and soon start to add up. I often use lots of small coins when using a self checkout till at the supermarket as it's a lot less embarrassing than giving a handful of small change to a cashier.

The best way to save IMHO is not to save coins, but to stop carrying cash.

I rarely have cash or get cash out of the bank - I do all of my spending by card, it’s so much easier to categorise and account for the spending.

Accounting for every single penny (I use moneydashboard) makes you much more mindful about where and how you spend money - and this means you spend less.

We make maximum use of our isa allowance every year, pay a good sum into our pensions and enjoy spending the rest on holidays 😀... and a bit of matched betting for additional income doesn’t hurt!
