Good question, not sure if some is set aside for DVC members.
Also maybe consider 24 one time points if under 7 months for at least a night or two?

Ali. It used to be that DVC Members got a discount on cash bookings. May be worth speaking to Member Services.

Reading between the lines, it's not that they are not available but not available for Free Dining bookings. Both were there until FD release. even last year when I had my week cash booking moved, there was still availability for DVC,in all categories, then of course everything came back on later!

in the end we just could not book anything other than CP. okay the difference in points would have got the kids a studio for 2 weeks but 1. we are not 100% sure they are coming and 2. when we saw the vast area that the paddock took up it made us rethink or not rethink if we waited we would not have go any choice re the accessible villa and I don't want to borrow for them , we have some point left

will ask member services re cash, might even buy the one time points which would give us 48 and we have enough room for them to come in with us for a week. I miss the layout not being like AK at SSR whereby there is a 3rd bathroom

we don't do free dining or even the dining plan so fingers crossed an option

I was thinking they had sort of shut down all cash bookings

Here we go, we still get discount and it's from a separate inventory by the looks of it:
What is a cash reservation at a Disney Vacation Club Resort and when can I book one?
A.
When a Member makes an exchange, their Disney Vacation Club property is rented for cash to pay for that exchange. The price for their vacation accommodations is offset by that cash rental. The result is cash availability, which a Member can take advantage of by getting a reduced rate at another Disney Vacation Club Resort.

The booking window for Members to make cash reservations is open 11 months in advance of Check-In date, with the exception of The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa (only 60 days out).

Important Information

Discounted cash reservations are based upon availability.
Member rental discounts may only be booked by a Purchaser or Associate. (Principal Contacts that are non-Members may not book any type of reservation.)
Members do not need to occupy the unit.
Reservations with the Member Discount can be made for friends and/or relatives.
When booking a future calendar year, the rate quoted is not always guaranteed. Please call Member Services at (800) 800-9800† to book a cash reservation.

brilliant, thanks YorkshireT gives us another option if they do come

was also thinking about the 24 points but can only book at the 7 month window and I think studios are more likely to go quick
