Have you ever met somebody famous but didn't know who they were?

A woman that comes into my workplace is constantly name dropping of celebrities she has met, which reminded me about 30 years ago a group of us went to Jersey for a long weekend. I went up to the hotel bar to purchase a drink and whilst waiting to be served I started talking to a gentleman next to me, just general chit chat, to which Mike Reid and Bungalow Bill (ex flame of Joan Collins) walked into the bar. I said that's Mike Reid and Bungalow Bill, yes he replied they are playing in a charity golf match tomorrow. I said I really did not like golf and asked if he played golf, he said he did and that he was going to the golf day. In my head I thought who on earth would go a watch a game of golf. The gentleman insisted on paying for my drink and I thanked him and he left the bar.

I sat down with my friends who all looked stunned especially the men. Do you know who you were speaking too? no I replied. I was duly informed that I had been speaking to Geoff Hurst

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Yeah i used to work in a pharmacy that the local population was predominantly footballers. I served Dirk Kuyt & Gary McAllister and didnt have a clue who they were. I also talked to Paul Gascoigne a few times (but knew him obviously) I also knew Rebecca Ferguson as a young shy girl (before she was famous).

As an LFC fan im a bit embarrassed to admit not knowing the 1st 2 lol

My husband was in the Navy serving with the Royal Marines. He came home one day telling me a loud man in a green beret and shell suit was shaking hands with them all whilst smoking a cigar but he didn't know why.

I explained it would have Been Jimmy saville 😳. He didn't have a clue.

I used to work in a supermarket and a customer came in at 5.02 (we shut at 5 but they hadn't shut the doors) and I drew the short straw at serving. At my till, loads of people were queuing for an autograph and asking for photos etc. I had no idea who it was but it was a local football manager (Sam Allardyce).

I was in the self check out queue in Tesco It had a sign saying cash only. The guy behind me was paying by card & only saw the sign as I was scanning my items. He asked me to "mind" his basket of pink champagne whilst he ran to the ATM outside to get cash.

DH came to meet me (once I'd paid, of course ) and I laughed about babysitting the pink champagne for a guy that I felt I ought to know. DH told me the guy was ex-footballer John Barnes

Almost the same, we live near Chatsworth, when the farm shop first opened, two ladies pushed past us to get to the door first, it was held open for them by a petite older lady, they walked in without saying thank you, (bad manners anyway) but as we walked in, we thanked the Duchess of Devonshire for kindly holding the door for us!
